Calder : mouvement et réalité
Auteur(s) : Arnauld Pierre
New expanded edition
The American sculptor Alexander Calder (1898–1976) shares with some of the greatest artists of the 20th century the formidable privilege of universal popularity. However, the creator of mobiles—one of the most innovative and daring forms of sculpture in the 20th century—had never received the critical and historical scrutiny commensurate with his fame.
Enriched by ongoing collaboration with the Calder Foundation, which holds the artist’s archives, this new edition of the monograph first published in 2009 seeks to restore the full significance of Calder’s inventions by demonstrating that a genuine artistic vision underpins his approach and that, in short, there is such a thing as a ‘Calderian’ aesthetic.
