Jean Dupas & co : le grand Art déco
Auteur(s) : Margaux Wymbs
Exhibition at the MusBA, Bordeaux, 26 June – 29 November 2026
A leading figure of Art Deco, Jean Dupas (1882–1964) brought the French elegance and modernity of the interwar period from Bordeaux to the United States. A painter, interior designer and creator of large-scale monumental works, the Bordeaux-born artist epitomised the luxury and spirit of the 1920s and 1930s.
Dupas is distinguished by a particularly inventive style, born of a unique fusion of eclectic tradition and Cubist modernity. His strange and timeless world, populated by elegant figures and exotic animals, made its mark in the pavilions of major international exhibitions, the interiors of collectors’ homes, the salons of transatlantic liners, and civil and religious buildings.
Richly illustrated, this exhibition catalogue traces the career of an artist of international renown and reveals, through his works and his circle, the artistic vitality of Art Deco France.
