Carlo Mollino: Architect Designer Photographer
Auteur(s) : Paola Colombari, Rossella Colombari
In 1981, two young gallery owners from Turin, Paola and Rossella Colombari, stumbled upon the furniture of Carlo Mollino (1905–1973), an enigmatic, unclassifiable and then unknown figure in Italian design. When they organised the first auction of Mollino furniture in Venice in 1985, they had no idea that this sale would trigger a massive international craze among collectors for Mollino's pioneering works. The designer's highly sought-after pieces would soon be selling for millions.
This book recounts Mollino's creative spirit, his architecture and design, his photography, his lifelong passion for speed, his eroticism and the overlap between his personal and professional life, from his childhood in Turin to his death. It includes a wealth of iconographic material – old photographs, drawings, sketches and photomontages from Mollino's archives – as well as previously unpublished documents and images, an essay by architect Mario Cucinella and a photographic portfolio by Uli Weber.
