Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) conceived of design as a cultural and social practice. Through her close engagement with architecture, craftsmanship and industrial production, she developed a philosophy of space that combines functionality, formal clarity and social responsibility. Her transnational experiences in Japan, Indochina and Brazil expanded European modernism through material and spatial approaches that remain influential today. For Perriand, housing was not a style, but an attitude.

From her collaboration with Le Corbusier and the iconic tubular steel furniture of the 1920s to experimental housing concepts and the Alpine resort of Les Arcs, this exhibition catalogue traces the evolution of a body of work that set new standards in modern design. Archival documents, historical photographs and reconstructed interiors highlight the full complexity of Perriand’s design programme, positioning the designer as a central figure in a design philosophy that combines ecological awareness, social responsibility and formal precision.
