Exhibition at the Archivio Scanavino, Milan, 1 April - 20 June 2022
One of the protagonists of the so-called informal generation and of the movement that emerged as spatialist in the aftermath of the Second World War, Emilio Scanavino (1922-1986) devoted himself for over thirty years to defining, through a reflection on the sign, a different alphabet and language, not to be read but deciphered. His ceramic works - often neglected because they are absorbed into his larger sculptural production - are fully in line with this research.
This exhibition catalogue, which presents sixty works comprising glazed and slip-cast terracotta, majolica and metal objects produced between the early 1950s and the late 1960s, explores the artist's relationship with polychrome ceramics and his formal questions. The book includes a critical text and a biographical appendix.
