Grès de Puisaye de Jean Carriès à nos jours : marques & signatures
Auteur(s) : Collectif
Sourced from soil exceptionally rich in clay and mined since the 14th century, Puisaye stoneware is renowned for its perfect watertightness and resistance to high temperatures. After centuries of utilitarian and traditional production, this craft was reinvented beginning in 1888 under the leadership of Jean Carriès (1855–1894) and his followers, and today serves as the historical foundation for a major scene of contemporary designers and artist-potters.
The result of several years of research, this book brings together for the first time the marks and signatures left by the potters and ceramists of Puisaye. It features 200 artists divided into four major periods: Jean Carriès and his followers, the interwar period (1920–1950), the modern period (1950–1990), and the contemporary period (1990–2025).
