La Pausa : la villa méditerranéenne idéale de Gabrielle Chanel

Nouveauté

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Almost a century ago, in 1928, Coco Chanel (1881–1971) had La Pausa, her ideal Mediterranean villa, built in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The couturier designed it as a home where she could entertain guests and friends, luxurious yet simple, surrounded by nature. Winston and Clementine Churchill stayed there eleven times between 1956 and 1959.

In 2015, Chanel bought the villa from the widow of journalist and collector Emery Raves, who had owned it since 1953, and undertook to restore it under the direction of architect Peter Marino in order to revive its original spirit, as conceived by the couturier.

This book explores the history of this unique site, both architecturally and decoratively, a true testament to the cultural scene of the 1930s. It also includes a conversation with Peter Marino.
