Exhibition at La Piscine, Roubaix, 7 March – 5 July 2026
Since 1837, the year of its founding in Roubaix, La Redoute has established itself as a reflection of French tastes, closely following the evolution of their customs and the quiet revolutions that have shaped society, particularly regarding the role and aspirations of women. Its catalogues, printed in the millions, gave rise to new patterns of consumption. They have served as the platform for numerous collaborations that have contributed to the brand’s influence and the rise of mail-order sales, offering the latest trends to the widest possible audience.
This exhibition catalogue traces, beyond this commercial revolution, La Redoute’s role in the evolution of society and consumption patterns. Drawing on its archives, advertisements, sales catalogues, testimonials, postcards, photographs and garments are presented along a journey rich in discoveries. The book also highlights collaborations with renowned couturiers and ready-to-wear designers (Yves Saint Laurent, Issey Miyake, Azzedine Alaïa, Sonia Rykiel, Jacquemus, Kevin Germanier…), leading designers (Sam Baron, Constance Guisset, Philippe Starck, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Christian Lacroix) and celebrity shoots photographed by Dominique Issermann and Kate Barry, among others.
