L’Âge du papier : Félix Vallotton illustrateur

Nouveauté

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Painter, engraver, draughtsman, writer and art critic, Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) is known for his incisive brushwork, a combination of decorative strength and biting expressivity. His revival of woodcutting in the 1890s quickly established him in Parisian artistic and literary circles. His talent as a prolific illustrator and press cartoonist spread his fame far beyond the borders of France and as far as the United States.

The Swiss artist illustrated bestsellers such as Jules Renard's Poil de Carotte, and contributed to the most fashionable avant-garde periodicals of the day, including La Revue blanche, Le Rire, Le Cri de Paris, L'Assiette au beurre and Le Canard sauvage in Paris, Jugend and Die Insel in Munich and Berlin, The Studio in London, and The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine in New York.

This book, which brings together critical essays and a selection of around 250 reproductions, explores this little-known aspect of Vallotton's work. It is published to coincide with the online publication of Félix Vallotton illustrateur. Catalog raisonné (Lausanne, Fondation Félix Vallotton & Lausanne/Zurich, Swiss Institute for the Study of Art (SIK-ISEA), Volume 32 in the series “Catalogues raisonnés d'artistes suisses”).
