Le Chalet du Skieur — Henry Jacques Le Même

Nouveauté

L'architecte de l'habitat élégant à la montagne / The architect of refined living in the mountains

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Whilst Charlotte Perriand shaped Les Arcs in the 1970s, Henry Jacques Le Même (1897–1987) had, fifty years earlier in Megève, invented the "Chalet du Skieur", thereby reimagining Alpine architecture in a modern style inspired by Art Deco. Commissioned by Baroness Noémie de Rothschild in 1926, the architect conceived an alpine dwelling rooted in its time, defying clichés: he did not merely design chalets, he imagined a new way of living in the mountains.

This book offers an opportunity to discover this little-known artist. By delving into his archives, it revisits, through images, the most remarkable of his 200 projects, which bear witness to the advent of modernism and mountain leisure in the 20th century.
