Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) devoted herself to a wide variety of art forms and became an undisputed master of collage. She assembled various materials found on the street and incorporated them into her works. Through striking colour combinations and original forms, she created astonishing objects – minimalist yet exuberant, sensitive, understated and experimental. The artist also produced monochrome sculptures entirely spray-painted in black, white or gold, thereby establishing an equivalence between the elements she assembled.
This exhibition catalogue presents a dialogue between a dozen large-scale assemblages and sculptures, and over 50 collages from the artist’s various creative periods.
