Cut Out : une histoire féministe du photomontage, collage et assemblage
Auteur(s) : Fiona Rogers
For a long time, women artists have been cutting, arranging and assembling: they use photomontage and collage to reveal a fragmented identity, made up of contrasts and, at times, contradictions.
This book, co-published with the V&A, explores the links between photography and the feminist practice of collage. It draws on a broad definition of collage that encompasses photomontage, assemblage and photograms. Tracing a chronology from the 19th century to contemporary artists, it includes album makers in Victorian England, avant-garde women associated with Dada, Surrealism and the Modernist movement, and radical activists from the second wave of feminism. Among these artists are Hannah Höch, Dora Maar, Lorna Simpson, Claude Cahun, Linder, Sue Williamson, as well as contemporary artists who use digital tools to continually expand the horizons of collage.
