Exhibition at the MAK, Vienna, 11 December 2024 – 11 May 2025
One of the most eccentric designers of Viennese modernism, Dagobert Peche (1887–1923) revolutionised the stylistic language of the Wiener Werkstätte: with opulent decorations inspired by nature and a revolutionary aesthetic, he gave practical objects a complexity that had been unknown until then.
Peche worked with a wide range of materials – silver, glass, ceramics, leather and paper – to design jewellery, furniture and exhibition displays, as well as sensational textile patterns. In just over a decade, he created a body of work that has fascinated and inspired the world of art and design ever since.
Divided into seven chapters, from “Arcadia” to “Uncanny”, this exhibition catalogue devoted to the artist's unique universe traces his influence, from Art Deco to postmodernism and beyond.
