For nearly a decade, the authors of this book ran an interior design studio, which gave them a unique opportunity to discover Portuguese family homes whose history and beauty deserved to be brought to light. Since then, with the boom in tourism in Portugal, many of these houses have ended up being converted into hotels, holiday rentals and rural guesthouses, as it was too costly to maintain them as simple family homes.
Observing this, Ana Anahory and Felipa Almeida felt the need to produce a book about those that still remain. Their book pays tribute to a memory, a craftsmanship and a Portuguese aesthetic that are disappearing with the mass production of design, objects and furniture, helping to raise awareness of the fact that this heritage is precious, that it is part of history and that it must be preserved.
