Exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie, Berlin, 8 November 2025 – 16 March 2026
The avant-garde artist Raoul Hausmann (1886–1971) fought against convention throughout his life. Resolutely determined to be ‘unscrupulously honest’ in both art and life, this Dadaist was an early multimedia activist and a sharp critic of society. Today, his visionary work can be appreciated in all its breadth.
With more than 300 works reproduced, this exhibition catalogue traces Hausmann's career: his early expressionist works, the Dadaist gems of his Berlin years, his photography, but also fashion, dance and literature, as well as the artist's lesser-known work in exile.
Twelve essays by international experts in art and literary history, media studies and psychoanalysis examine this multifaceted oeuvre to offer a varied panorama of Hausmann's astonishing importance, even today.
