Exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, 15 October 2014 - 12 January 2015
Of the work of Robert Delaunay (1885-1941), a pioneer of the abstract movements, we know mainly the pre-war production, marked by the invention of Orphic, a trend of Cubism dedicated to a form of "luminous language".
This exhibition catalogue offers a new look at the artist's lesser-known second period. The 1930s saw Delaunay break free from the canvas to create mural works and take over architectural space, as with his reliefs and mosaics or his decorations for the two spectacular Palais de l'air et des chemins de fer designed with Félix Aublet for the 1937 International Exhibition.
