André Sornay was one of the major designers of his time. Attached to Lyon, his native city, he wanted to develop out of Paris a modern and contemporary “art de vivre”. Refusing any group, he became friend with several Lyon artists: the architects Louis Thomas and Tony Garnier, the dinandier Claudius Linossier, or the ceramist Paul Beyer.

In this first complete monograph, the authors analyse the specificities of Sornay's style, between tradition and modernity. His drawings and drafts reveal his taste for refine furniture, and his way to work the material derived from the industrial world.
