Calder : rêver en équilibre
Auteur(s) : Collectif
Exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, 15 April – 16 August 2026
One of the most influential and renowned artists of the 20th century, Alexander Calder (1898–1976) revolutionised sculpture by introducing movement and lightness through his mobiles and stability through his stabiles. His wire works, likened to ‘drawings in space’, capture movement.
This exhibition catalogue, which brings together over 300 works, bears witness to Calder’s deep connection with France and traces the development of his work from the 1920s until his death in 1976. It also explores how his wire sculptures—mobiles and stabiles—resonated with the masterpieces of his contemporaries, such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky, as well as his close circle, which included Jean Arp, Joan Miró and Fernand Léger.
