Picasso said of Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) that he was ‘the father of us all’. Although he remained little known during his lifetime, spending his final years in seclusion in Aix-en-Provence, he is now regarded as a giant of painting and the father of modern art.

This book traces, in a vivid and well-documented manner, the connections between Cézanne and the major artists from the late 19th to the 21st century, from Pissarro to Peter Doig, and enables us to appreciate the foundational and enduring influence of the Aix-based painter.
