It provides biographical information on the manufacturers: dates, addresses, specialities, brands or signs, sales and places where the instruments are kept.

The richness of this work lies in the bibliographical sources it offers: directories, French and foreign auction catalogues, collection and exhibition catalogues, booksellers' and gallery owners' catalogues, some of which have not yet been digitised.
