Hervé Di Rosa : Ses Sources, Ses Démons
Auteur(s) : Philippe Bouchet (dir.)
Exhibition at the Musée d'art et d'archéologie, Valence, 27 March - 28 August 2022
Associated with the Figuration Libre movement, Hervé Di Rosa (1959-) belongs to the group of artists who, in the early 1980s, made headlines in France. Like Robert Combas, François Boisrond and Rémi Blanchard, he paints pictures whose brutality and apparent naivety contrast with the dogmatism in which artistic movements have been confined for several decades. Di Rosa's painting, however, is inspired by a broad spectrum of culture, with an unsuspected classical taste, inscribed and nourished by a much more complex dimension than it appears at first glance.
This exhibition catalogue examines the relationship between Di Rosa's works and those of the past. His colourful and exuberant universe, the open dialogue with the artistic traditions and techniques of other countries and the resulting reflection on the definition of art offer a delightful and insolent rereading of the history of the arts.
