Inventing The California Look Through The Lens Of Fred Lyon

Auteur(s) : Philip E. Meza

From the 1940s through the 1980s, some of Northern California's most beautiful homes were decorated by designers whose names were recognized only by interior design connoisseurs. From Frances Elkins and Tony Hail with their aristocratic aesthetic to Michael Taylor and John Dickinson with their bold fantasies, these designers created groundbreaking designs that were characteristic of their time and place.

Fred Lyon (1924-) is perhaps the only photographer to have experienced and illustrated the work of this talented group. He worked closely with magazine designers and editors to help shape the image for posterity.

This book allows us to rediscover through Fred Lyon's photographs those spaces that have since disappeared or been profoundly altered, replaced by different tastes and new styles.
