Jardin d'amour : l'art, la nature et la révolution du sentiment

What is love in the age of eco-consciousness? As our relationship with the living world undergoes a profound crisis, the quest for love is reinventing itself to become a force for harmony, respect and union with nature. Far from being a mere romantic sentiment, love is now asserting itself as a vital and spiritual impulse capable of re-enchanting our connection to the Earth and redefining our place within the cosmos.

This philosophical and sensory journey is the subject of this exhibition catalogue, centred on the monumental work by Yang Jiechang (1956–), Tale of the Eleventh Day – Red Autumn (2014–2024), whose title refers to the Decameron, also known as Ten days entertainment. It offers a unique visual dialogue between masterpieces by Pierre Bonnard, Max Ernst and Fernand Léger, and the visions of contemporary artists.

By guiding the reader through the artworks—complementing the narrative of the text—the book invites an original reflection on the emergence of a new romantic imagination, drawing on artistic and literary sources from different cultures, from prehistory to the present day.
