One of the major ceramists of the Art Deco period, Jean Besnard (1889-1958), whose most outstanding creations fetch six-figure prices at public auction, had not until now received the study deserved by his great talent.
This book traces his golden childhood as the son of renowned artists, his late vocation followed by an unusual apprenticeship, and then his professional life (workshops, exhibitions, salons, etc.) in the Paris of the 1930s.
Based on extensive research in old documentation, antique dealers' archives and museum collections, this study, rich in more than 350 illustrations, also includes a table of marks used by Besnard, a bibliography as well as a chronology of his exhibitions and an index.
