La Modernité En Bretagne, Volume 1 De Claude Monet À Lucien Simon, 1870-1920

Auteur(s) : Collectif

Exhibition at the Musée de Pont-Aven, 4 February - 11 June 2017

Between 1888 and 1894, in Pont-Aven, Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard initiated a major artistic revolution in the history of modern painting. Between 1870 and 1920, many artists settled in Brittany to experiment with new artistic techniques. Over several decades, and influenced by the pictorial currents that had marked the 19th century - the naturalism of Eugène Boudin, the impressionism of Claude Monet, the neo-impressionism of Paul Signac and the fauvism of Robert Delaunay - the artists gave birth to innovative aesthetic styles.

This exhibition catalogue offers a two-part exhibition devoted to these influences and sources of inspiration that emerged between 1870 and 1940 in Brittany, in the wake of the masters of modern painting.
