The Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was the golden age of Chinese furniture. The furniture is simple, with soft, rounded curves, subtly decorated with elegance and its basic structures highlighted. The furniture of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), in contrast to that of the Ming, reflects the influence of Western taste through the opening of the Empire to the rest of the world.

This two-volume work offers a detailed overview of Chinese furniture from the 14th to the early 20th century.
