This book is dedicated to Robert Deblander (1924–2010), one of France’s leading ceramic artists. His innovative body of work, characterised by a rigorous simplicity, developed during the second half of the 20th century, at a pioneering time in the history of ceramic art.
A versatile artist and independent figure, he is distinguished by his iconic forms in stoneware and porcelain, a subtle colour palette of monochrome glazes, and the modernity of his light, free-flowing graphic designs, as well as by a significant body of abstract stoneware sculptures.
Following the retrospective held at the Sèvres Ceramics Museum in 2001, Robert Deblander returned to the sculptural forms that had fascinated him in the 1970s, and which he had quietly continued to explore, evolving to assert themselves today.
