New expanded edition

This new edition of the first ever two-volume monograph on Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata (1934–91) presents his entire body of work.

The first volume covers Kuramata's life and the radical changes he experienced in Japan, and explains in detail the ideas, relationships and technical innovations that made his work possible. It also presents a selection of the artist's writings.

The second volume offers a catalogue of works, presenting the more than 600 pieces of furniture, objects and interiors that Kuramata designed during his lifetime, most of which have never been published (and many of which, including almost all of the interiors, have been demolished). Each project is illustrated with an image from Kuramata's archives and accompanied by a detailed caption and key information.
