Exhibition at the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, Lausanne, 24 October – 15 February 2025
The paintings, engravings, illustrations and press drawings of Félix Vallotton (1865–1925) are characterised by detached and critical observation, satirical acuity and a strong desire for independence. He is now considered one of the greatest names in art history, both in his native Switzerland and in his adopted homeland, France.
A century after his death, this exhibition catalogue brings together for the first time all facets of Vallotton's work through 250 works, including many masterpieces from Swiss and European collections. It brings together major works from all periods of Vallotton's career, from his early days and his Nabis period in the 1890s to his sophisticated dialogue with tradition in the modern era that marked his later years, inviting us to rediscover a major artist of modernity.
