La formation des architectes à l’École des arts décoratifs

In France, the history of architectural education has long focused on the teaching provided within the renowned architecture department of the École des Beaux-Arts, leaving the courses offered by other institutions in the shadows.

Among these was the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris. Founded in 1766 as the capital’s first free Royal School of Drawing, the institution awarded a degree in architecture between 1922 and 1942.

This book explores the teaching of architecture at the École de dessin and subsequently at the École des arts décoratifs, and highlights this institution’s unique contribution to the training of architects in the 19th and 20th centuries.
